Majura Primary has grown significantly, from 588 students in 2015 to over 800 now, with projections for more enrolments in the future due to an increasing population in the area. Unfortunately, our outdated infrastructure, much of which is over 60 years old, can't keep up. Despite a $39.3 million government promise for modernization and expansion, followed by another $12.6 million commitment in 2024, the current plans fall far short. A proposed 10-classroom building doesn't address the need for a new gym, additional hardcourts, green spaces, or specialised learning areas for STEM and the arts. This leaves us with infrastructure inadequate for our growing student body. We believe any expansion should fully address our infrastructure needs, not just add classrooms.
Our objectives are to ensure we achieve a plan that:
1) Meets the needs of the current and projected future enrolments at the school and includes enough funding to achieve that plan.
2) Brings the school closer to the Education Directorate Infrastructure Specifications on all measures.
3) Prioritises improving the conditions for students that are enrolled now by allocating funds in the short-term to address critical issues in our existing learning environments (such as adequate heating and cooling, and modernisation of aged bathroom facilities).
